Our Story

A tavern built on Oregon's bounty.

813 SW Alder St · Portland, OR

Bullard Tavern elevates Oregon's rich history of local, seasonal fare with exceptional dining in Downtown Portland. We love smoke, fire, celebrating wines from the Willamette Valley, and a good dirty martini — and we built a room where all of those things sit at the same table.

We are here for celebrations of any kind, all with the goal of making sure you have a good time while enjoying the best that the Oregon bounty has to offer. That can mean a slow brunch with Beef Birria Huevos Rancheros and a coffee, an unhurried Tuesday lunch, a $34 bavette steak frites with cowboy butter for someone's birthday, or just a cocktail at the bar at 4 in the afternoon while the city outside changes shifts.

Situated in the heart of the city, Bullard is the marquis dining room for Woodlark Hotel, a turn-of-the-century Portland landmark. The room carries that history with it — warm wood, dim brass, a long bar — but the kitchen looks firmly forward, leaning on local farms, the Pacific shellfish that show up that morning, and the deep bench of Willamette Valley winemakers a short drive south.

What we're about

Four things we'll never apologize for.

01

Smoke & Fire

Hearth-seared albacore. Eight-hour smoked beef short rib. Brown-sugar maple pork belly. We cook over heat that leaves its fingerprints on the plate — and we wouldn't have it any other way.

02

Willamette Valley wines

The best Pinot country in America is forty-five minutes from our front door. Our list celebrates it — small producers, classic houses, and the kind of bottles that make a Tuesday feel like an occasion.

03

A properly dirty martini

Cold glass, cold gin, the right amount of brine. Our bar program is built on the classics done with respect, with a rotating list of house cocktails for when you want to be surprised.

04

Celebrating, full stop

Anniversaries, after-work drinks, a hotel guest's first night in town, a long family dinner in the private room. We're here for any reason you can name to have a good time.

The Room

The marquis dining room of Woodlark Hotel.

Bullard occupies the ground floor of a turn-of-the-century Portland landmark — a brass-and-wood corner room at 813 SW Alder, a block from the storefronts of Downtown and a short walk from MAX. Visitors notice the room first; locals come back for the kitchen.

We host brunch on weekends, daytime lunch through the week, dinner every night, and a daily happy hour that runs from 3 to 5 (and from 2 on Saturday and Sunday) with beer, wine, margaritas, and small plates.

"We used the private dining area for a family-style dinner for 12. The choices were great, the food was delicious, and our server Shannon did a great job with the group."
